The Victron BatteryProtect 48V-100A is an automatic battery disconnect device designed to protect 48V battery banks from over-discharge. It disconnects the load before the battery reaches a critically low voltage, preventing cell damage and extending battery service life. It is suited to off-grid solar systems, marine installations, and any 48V DC application where load shedding is required.
The BatteryProtect works by monitoring battery voltage continuously. When voltage drops to the programmed disconnect threshold, the unit opens the load circuit and holds it open until the battery recovers to the reconnect voltage. This prevents the sustained low-voltage conditions that cause irreversible capacity loss in both lead-acid and lithium cells. The rotary switch on the unit allows the installer to select from several pre-set voltage profiles without any additional programming tools.
The remote input accepts a signal from an external source such as a Victron BMV battery monitor, a BMS, or a simple switch. This allows the BatteryProtect to be overridden or controlled as part of a wider system. The alarm output can drive an LED indicator or feed a signal to a monitoring system, giving advance notice before the full disconnect occurs. These features make it straightforward to integrate into both simple and more complex off-grid or marine DC systems.
At 100A, this unit covers a wide range of 48V load scenarios including inverter pre-loads, DC distribution boards, and auxiliary circuits. It is not a charge controller and should be wired on the load side of the battery, not between the battery and charger.

The BatteryProtect must be installed on the load side of the battery, between the battery bank and the DC loads. It must not be placed in the charge circuit. Wiring should be sized appropriately for 100A continuous current and protected with a suitably rated fuse. Installation in 48V systems should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator familiar with DC battery systems. For systems connected to solar PV or grid-tied equipment, ensure all relevant wiring regulations and local compliance requirements are observed.
