When sealing gaps and penetrations in construction, you need more than just a filler. You need durable insulation and sound dampening that performs for years. MapePUR Universal Foam M delivers a stable, closed-cell fill that insulates against thermal transfer and sound, resists moisture, and prevents mould. It’s the right foam for a robust, energy-efficient build.
Why this product exists
MapePUR Universal Foam M is a one-component expanding polyurethane foam engineered to fill, seal, and insulate gaps across diverse construction applications. It forms a stable, closed-cell structure with excellent mechanical characteristics, providing significant thermal and acoustic insulation. This foam is waterproof, resistant to temperatures from -40°C to +90°C, humidity, ageing, and mould formation. Its CFC-free formulation ensures environmental responsibility, setting it apart from basic fillers by delivering comprehensive performance in a single product.
The numbers that matter
Every performance metric in MapePUR Universal Foam M supports a more durable, energy-efficient building envelope:
- Thermal Conductivity (0.039 W/m K): This low value signifies high thermal resistance, crucial for preventing heat loss or gain around frames and penetrations. It directly contributes to improved energy efficiency and reduced utility costs.
- Soundproofing Capacity (58 dB): A 58 dB sound reduction rating means MapePUR Universal Foam M significantly dampens noise transfer, enhancing acoustic comfort in residential and commercial spaces.
- Service Temperature Range (-40°C to +90°C): This broad operational range ensures the foam maintains its integrity and performance through Australia's diverse climates, from freezing winters to scorching summers.
- Compressive Strength (4.5 N/cm²) & Tensile Strength (7.5 N/cm²): These strengths indicate the foam’s structural integrity once hardened. It resists forces within filled gaps without breaking down, contributing to a stable, long-lasting seal.
- Dust Dry in 5-10 Minutes, Cuttable in 25-30 Minutes: This rapid curing allows for quick progression on site. Surfaces are ready for trimming or further work within half an hour, speeding up project timelines.
What it's like to use
MapePUR Universal Foam M applies easily with its hand lever, simplifying precise filling. Substrates must be clean, dust-free, and oil-free. For optimal expansion and hardening, dampen surfaces with water before application. Shake the can well for 30 seconds, then hold it upside down. Fill the gap from the lowest point upwards, aiming for 50-60% volume as the foam expands to complete the fill. For continuous work, shake the can periodically. Excess uncured foam can be cleaned with MapePUR Cleaner. Once hardened, the foam can be cut, sanded, drilled, or skimmed before painting to finish the surface. For gun-applied precision, consider MapePUR Universal Foam G with the MapePUR Gun Standard.
Where this product excels
- Window and Door Installations: Insulating and sealing gaps around door frames, window frames, and roller-blind housings to eliminate drafts, enhance thermal performance, and reduce noise transmission.
- Pipe Penetrations: Insulating through-pipes for heating, air-conditioning, and cooling systems, preventing energy loss and condensation while securing the penetration point.
- General Construction Gaps: Filling voids between various building materials like brickwork, concrete, timber, metal, and PVC, ensuring a robust, airtight, and insulated seal.
- Electrical Installations: Bonding embedded electrical fittings, such as cable-runs and junction boxes, within walls, providing stable support and insulation.
Choose this when
- When you need a versatile, one-component foam for filling, sealing, and insulating in one step.
- When high thermal and acoustic performance is critical for occupant comfort and energy efficiency.
- For sealing around frames, pipework, and electrical boxes in demanding internal and external environments.
- On common building substrates such as concrete, timber, masonry, and rigid plastics.
Don't use this when
- Not for: Adherence to polyethylene, silicone, or Teflon. Choose specialized sealants for these non-stick surfaces.
- Not for: Direct, unprotected exposure to UV rays once hardened. The foam surface must be painted or skimmed to prevent degradation.
- Not for: Applications requiring specific fire ratings beyond DIN 4102 B3. Consult product data sheets for higher-rated alternatives if needed.
- Not for: Extensive surface areas in occupied premises without adequate ventilation during application, due to its flammability (Class B3).
