Managing critical waterproofing across below-ground, covered external, and internal wet areas requires robust performance without compromise. SILCOR 560 HB LVOC delivers this, ensuring seamless protection while significantly reducing environmental, health, and safety risks on site. This high-solids, one-part polyurethane system simplifies application, providing a Class III compliant membrane for demanding non-exposed environments.

Why this product exists

This product was developed as a very low VOC alternative, directly replacing AQUAGARD M 40R Low VOC Grey. It addresses the critical need for robust waterproofing solutions that minimise the environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) issues associated with high VOC emissions on construction sites. SILCOR 560 HB LVOC provides a one-part, liquid-applied, Class III certified polyurethane waterproofing membrane for diverse non-exposed applications, prioritising site safety and compliance.

The numbers that matter

  • Class III Certified (AS4858 & AS4654.1): This certification verifies its high extensibility. It means the membrane can reliably bridge non-structural cracks and accommodate expected structural movement, crucial for long-term waterproofing integrity in Australian conditions.
  • Elongation >550% and Tensile Strength >2.0 MPa: These figures provide a significant performance buffer. This membrane maintains integrity even under dynamic crack movement and substrate shifts, offering a wide margin of safety against membrane failure.
  • Very Low VOC: A primary design feature, this significantly improves site air quality and worker safety. It helps meet stringent environmental and safety protocols, particularly in enclosed or partially enclosed work areas.
  • One-part, High Solids (91 ±3% w/w): Being a single-component system simplifies application by eliminating mixing errors and reduces site waste. The high solids content means less solvent evaporates, leaving a thicker, more durable membrane on the substrate.

What it's like to use

SILCOR 560 HB LVOC is a one-part, cold-applied membrane, simplifying preparation and application. It is applied straight from the pail by roller or brush in two coats, removing the need for complex mixing ratios or flame/heat application. Tack-free in 4 hours and ready for recoat in 12 hours (at 22°C and 60% RH), it allows for efficient project scheduling, although cure times will extend in cooler or drier conditions.

Always prime substrates with a suitable GCP primer before applying the membrane. Use SILCOR Primer BS for dry, porous surfaces or EPOCOTE F100W for damp or green concrete conditions. Detailing corners, penetrations, and joints with SILCOR LM PU Sealant creates a durable bond-breaker and ensures a continuous, integrated waterproofing system. Clean application equipment immediately using xylene solvent; cured product must be removed mechanically.

Where this product excels

  • External Below Ground Tanking: Ideal for lift pits, retaining walls, and basement walls. It provides critical protection against hydrostatic pressure in confined spaces while minimising exposure to high VOCs for applicators.
  • External Above Ground (Non-exposed/Covered): For waterproofing balconies, podiums, and planter boxes that will be covered by screed, pavers, or landscaping. It forms a seamless barrier, accommodating substrate movement, and is designed to perform once protected from UV.
  • Internal Wet Areas: Suitable for bathroom floors, shower trays, laundries, and toilets. It provides a compliant, flexible waterproofing layer in residential and commercial wet areas, vital for maintaining healthy indoor air quality during construction.

How it fits in a real system

SILCOR 560 HB LVOC is positioned as the primary waterproofing layer in a multi-component system. Its application follows thorough substrate preparation, which includes cleaning, repairing non-structural defects, and chamfering corners. Detailing with SILCOR LM PU Sealant addresses high-movement areas and penetrations. After substrate-specific priming with a GCP primer like SILCOR Primer BS or EPOCOTE F100W, the membrane is applied in two coats to achieve the required dry film thickness. Finally, it must be protected from physical damage and UV light with subsequent layers such as screeds, tiles, backfill, or protective boards like PROTECTOBOARD or RAPID-DRAIN.

Choose this when

  • You need a one-part, liquid-applied, Class III waterproofing membrane for non-exposed applications.
  • The project requires significantly reduced VOC emissions for enhanced health, safety, or environmental compliance.
  • Waterproofing is for below-ground structures, covered external areas, or internal wet areas.
  • You require a flexible membrane capable of bridging non-structural cracks and accommodating substrate movement.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Trafficable applications, whether foot or vehicle. Use Silcor 580 for trafficable areas.
  • Not for: Exposed applications. It is not UV stable and requires permanent protection from direct or indirect UV exposure within 14 days of application. Consider Silcor 575 LB for exposed applications (when overcoated with Silcor Top Coat 75).
  • Not for: Potable water storage tanks.
  • Not for: Primerless applications. This product always requires an appropriate GCP primer to ensure optimal adhesion and performance.
  • Not for: Environments with consistently low humidity (below 25% RH), as this can prevent the product from curing properly.

This membrane is Class III certified to AS 4858:2004 for “Wet Area Membranes” and tested to AS 4654.1 for external waterproofing. Compliance with these standards confirms its suitability for both internal wet areas under AS 3740:2010, and external non-exposed applications, providing reliable, long-term protection against water ingress in Australian building projects.
