Who does not know Charles Lindbergh?
On May 21-22, 1927 Charles Lindbergh made the first solo non-stop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. The ‘Spirit of St. Louis’ or officially the 'Ryan NYP' (New York-Paris) was based on the M-2 mailplane from Ryan Airlines.
It took him 33 hours and 30 minutes to fly 3,600 miles (5.800 km) and land at Le Bourget, Paris. He could only see forward through a telescope and was all alone in the cramped cockpit. He won the Orteig Price of $25,000 with this flight.
