• The Stone: Blue lace agate and blue chalcedony, two closely related stones in alternating sizes. The larger beads show the delicate white and blue banding that blue lace agate is known for. The smaller beads are blue chalcedony, smoother and more uniform in color. Both are pale, soft, and quiet on the wrist. Set between sterling silver disc spacers and finished with a sterling silver clasp.
• History: Blue lace agate has no ancient mythology. It was discovered in the 1960s by prospector Willy Preiss in the Namibian desert. He traded the mine to a farmer named George Swanson, who ran it for over 40 years. After the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, Swanson noticed his polished agate looked exactly like the famous "Blue Marble" photograph of Earth taken from space, and used this to market the stone worldwide. The mine closed in 2017. Chalcedony itself is far older in human use. Its name comes from the ancient Greek port of Chalcedon. It has been carved into seals, tools, and jewelry since the Bronze Age. The purple variety is a quieter stone, valued more recently for its soft color and calm presence.
• The Belief: In modern crystal practice, blue lace agate is a throat chakra stone, said to strengthen calm communication and ease anxiety. Blue chalcedony carries similar properties, said to strengthen composure and thoughtful speech.
