A Symbol of Royal Power and Modern Myanmar
Add a touch of contemporary history to your collection with this uncirculated 20,000 Kyat note. In Burmese tradition, the appearance of a white elephant is seen as a powerful omen of peace, prosperity, and the rightful rule of a sovereign. This lime-green banknote captures that ancient symbolism using modern security printing techniques.
Obverse (Front): Features a magnificent White Elephant adorned in ceremonial green and gold regalia. The elephant, named Rattha Nandaka, was born in 2022 and is considered a national treasure. The note's background is filled with traditional Burmese floral patterns and a stylized lotus.
Reverse (Back): Showcases two of Myanmar's most important engineering feats in Sagaing: the Sagaing Bridge (the old Inwa Bridge built in 1934) and the newer Ayeyarwady Bridge (Yadanabon). These bridges represent the vital link across the Irrawaddy River.
Commemorative Intent: Issued specifically to mark the first anniversary of the white elephant's birth and the inauguration of the giant seated Buddha statue in Naypyidaw.
Limited Circulation: Although it is legal tender, these notes were released in limited quantities via exchange for old/worn notes, making UNC examples highly collectible outside of Myanmar.
Issuer: Central Bank of Myanmar.
Denomination: 20,000 Kyats.
Year of Issue: 2023.
Collector's Perspective: This is a "high-interest" note for those who collect by theme (elephants/wildlife) or those following the current geopolitical shifts in Southeast Asia. Because it is the largest denomination ever produced for the Kyat, it carries significant presence in a display. The intricate light-green and gold underprints make it one of the most visually balanced notes in the current Myanmar series.
