This rare antique evening dress, dating to around 1918, represents a fascinating transitional style between the final years of the Edwardian period and the emerging aesthetics of the Golden Twenties. Made of black silk, the gown consists of a fitted underdress overlaid with a flowing overdress, creating the fluid, elongated silhouette characteristic of the late 1910s.

The dress features a U‑shaped neckline and short sleeves made of net tulle, each sleeve decorated with small cabochon stones that add subtle sparkle. The chest and back are richly adorned with sequins, with the embellishment on the back extending into a narrow train that moves gracefully with the wearer. An attached belt, set with large cabochon stones, defines the waist, while a central appliqué of glass beads and glass pins provides a striking focal point.

Although the dress carries no label, its craftsmanship and design quality strongly suggest a maker of note. It comes from the same collection as the Grant Bros. dresses, and was likely worn by the same owner.

The antique dress is in very good condition, with only minor, age‑appropriate imperfections: slight sequin loss in the train, one or two small stains, a few missing hooks, eyelets, or press studs, and 1–2 tears in the light‑coloured silk lining. One cabochon stone on the belt is missing. Decorative items shown in photographs are not included.
