This very distinctive boudoir gown, dating to around 1877 and originating from America, is a rare and beautifully preserved example of late Victorian informal wear. Made from thin white batiste, the gown was designed for the private morning hours of a lady’s routine - typically worn casually over her dressing gown while she remained in her boudoir, attended only by her chambermaid. Such garments combined intimacy, elegance, and ease.

The front of the gown is decorated with delicate lace, adding refinement to the otherwise airy fabric. A long train with a Watteau pleat falls gracefully from the back, creating the soft, flowing silhouette characteristic of the 1870s. The gown features ¾‑length sleeves and fastens at the front with small buttons, all typical of boudoir attire meant for comfort rather than public display.

The piece is in very good condition, especially remarkable for its age. It shows only a few light stains and one small hole in the hem, which has been turned inward and is not visible from the outside. Decorative items shown in photographs are not included.
