Cazzati, Maurizio (1616-1678)
Description:
A valuable collection of Cazzati's works that further developed Monteverdi's music Maurizio Cazzati (1616-1678) is somewhat of a minor figure among 17th century Italian composers, but he was quite a prolific writer, publishing 66 volumes of printed music and composing nearly 2000 pieces of music in all genres. He was a prolific composer. He worked at various courts and institutions in northern Italy, served as court music director at the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna, and in his later years worked for the Duke of Gonzaga in Mantova. His musical achievement is that he was born a generation after the great innovator Monteverdi, and that he both adopted and developed his style. Therefore, he is often overshadowed by Monteverdi, but the excellent Italian singer Borgioni has released an album dedicated to his work, which has allowed us to rediscover his charms. The content is composed mainly of solo motets that show concerto-like treatment, but also incorporates instrumental music. King International
