Marchand, Joseph (1673-1747)
Description:
Joseph Marchand (1673-17479), today a forgotten treasure of the early 18th century by the young Polish antiquarian music, was one of Louis XIV's musicians, serving as bass viol player for the Chapelle Royal, the King's 24 violons, and others. He was also a teacher, and as a performer he is said to have had a very unusual style: his Suite of Seven Suites for Violin and Bassoon, composed in 1707, includes a sonata and is said to be the first to use the dreaded double-trills. The seven suites for violin and bass are considered to be the first to use the dreaded double-trills, and are gems of the early 18th century, with their Italianate style and individuality, including the beauty of harmony and the virtuosity of the bass part. {The Trio was formed in 2012 by three Polish musicians born in the 1980s. They have brought back to life some of Marchand's unknown works. King International
