Description:

What a surprise! Kopatchinskaja sings "Clown possessed by the moon"! Patrizia Kopatchinskaja has established herself as a violinist of exceptional talent. She sings the solo instead of playing the violin and performs "The Clown in the Moon" on CD, which she has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic and in other countries in Europe and the U.S. wearing a flamboyant clown costume. Schoenberg's problematic work was written for a five-player chamber ensemble and a soloist called Sprechgesang (or Sprechstimme), who "sings as if speaking," and is now often soloed by a soprano, making it notoriously difficult to perform. Kopatchinskaja's approach is to tell the story in a theatrical manner with dynamic expressions rather than singing, which is perhaps her own way of pursuing her origins, considering that Albertine Tsehme, who commissioned and premiered this work, was an actress, not a singer. Kopatchinskaja's artistry is supported by her musical grounding, even as she adds a fierce expression that sometimes verges on shouting, and the result is an excellent performance that allows us to enjoy her and the work in a new and fascinating way.In other works, Kopatchinskaja participates on violin as usual, including the version of the "Emperor's Circle Dance" that Schoenberg arranged for the "Private Performance Society" and then rearranged for a composition similar to the "Pierrot". Includes a color booklet with many photos and illustrations of the performances Naxos Japan
