Wilson Moreira
Description:
Samba fans rejoice! Wilson Moreira (1936-2018) was a well-known samba heavyweight. His last work will be released as Sambinha Import. Wilson Moreira was active since the 1970s with lyricist Ney Lopez. In the late 70s, he and Ney released two albums under the same name, which attracted a lot of attention. After that, he went solo and released "I am the Samba" under the production of Katsunori Tanaka. (Rice ATR-914) and "Okolofe" (Rice SPR-005), both produced by Katsunori Tanaka. However, Wilson sadly passed away in September 2018, and here is the last recording he left before his death. The music is full of Wilson's originality as a samba creator, with Wilson credited as a composer on all of the songs. The band reproduces the orthodox traditional samba sound here, with Paulone's seven-string guitar, a musician active in the traditional samba scene, and an escolar-style unison chorus, backed by the swing of the cavaquinho and multiple percussionists. To be honest, the singing does not have the same bounce as it did in its heyday, but the "withered flavor" has increased, and the so-called "grandfather samba" charm can be strongly appreciated. The artwork, which is an aquarella (watercolor) depiction of life in what appears to be a favela in Rio, is also noteworthy. It can be said that this work is filled with affection and nostalgia, and is a fitting tribute to the memory of the late great figure.
