About the Artist: Mika Nishino
Mika Nishino is a Kutani porcelain artist based in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Born in 1983 in Hakui City, she graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Kinjo University and later completed the Kutani Pottery Technical Training School’s graduate program. Her works, known for their delicate brushwork and enchanting use of color, reflect a unique modern interpretation of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Nishino continues to explore the diverse possibilities of Kutani pottery, creating beautiful and functional pieces, including accessories and incense burners.

About Kutani Ware:
Kutani porcelain is a style of painted pottery that originated in southern Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, with a history spanning over 360 years. Famous for its vivid five-color (red, blue, yellow, purple, green) decoration, it is highly regarded worldwide for its vibrant and powerful designs, known as "Japanese overglaze." From the heavy beauty of ancient Kutani to the free, modern interpretations seen today, Kutani ware continues to evolve, blending artistic elegance with functional design.
