These two species are endemic to the San Francisco Bay area (California) and both are threatened at different levels. Urban development and invasive species has made the Callippe Silverspot Butterfly a federally endangered species, with only a few remaining colonies left. Around the time Ho'olaule'a is up, these butterflies will be in flight till June. The Franciscan Wallflower is listed as "at risk" by NatureServe and is being monitored and aided by the Presidio of San Francisco. Interestingly, it's name, Erysimum, comes from greek meaning "to help," a theme that drives this body of work.
