The upstream and downstream pressure gauges are required by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). A relief valve of not less than 1/2 inch in size MUST be installed on the downstream side of the pressure control valve. Adequate drainage for the relief valve discharge must be provided. The valve should be installed in accordance with NFPA 13 or NFPA 14 standards. The recommended installation orientation is horizontal with the valve cover up. 6 inch and larger valves should only be installed horizontally with the valve cover up due to the difficulty of properly bleeding air out of the cover and performing maintenance on valves installed in the vertical orientation.
