Up for sale is a 1920’s American Art Deco Ohio Art Pottery Blended Onyx Brown Glazed Earthenware Raised Relief Horse Motifs Vase! It measures 9 9/16” tall. The piece is in excellent overall condition with minor signs of wear consistent with its age and use (scattered light surface wear). Please message us if you have any questions. Thanks!
An exceptional piece of early 20th century Midwestern craftsmanship, this Art Deco art pottery vase features a highly stylized, dimensional raised relief motif of horses encircling the central body. The vessel is cloaked in a rich, high-gloss "Blended Onyx" glaze, showcasing a deep chocolate brown slip artfully contrasted by cascading, running streaks of amber, caramel, and yellow-cream overglazes. True to the production techniques of the historic Zanesville, Ohio River Valley region, the unglazed bottom foot ring reveals a porous, light terracotta-buff earthenware bisque body. This striking design, glaze application, and clay profile strongly align with the commercial art pottery lines popularized by the Brush-McCoy Pottery Company during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
