Description:
Wendell Harrison, the founder of the "Tribe" and a saxophone player who has left many great performances since the 70's, released this 1980 album on the "Wenha" label! The first release from "Wenha", with a splendid lineup including his ally Phil Ranelin, inherits the spiritual philosophy of the 70's "Tribe" and blends it with the smooth feeling of the 80's to perfection! This album retains the spiritual and blackened philosophy of the 70's "Tribe", while incorporating the smooth feeling of the early 80's.This is the first release on Wenha, the label that Wendell Harrison started as the successor to Tribe, and the original version has always been a collector's item that fetched a high price. The side players include Phil Ranelin (Trombone), Harold McKinney (Keyboards), Roy Brooks (Percussion), and other Detroit heavyweights, and the album features the soulful vocals of Phil Ranelin and Roy Brooks. The album begins with "Take Time Out" (M1) featuring soulful vocals, followed by the spiritual jazz "Pink Snowballs And Violet Skies" (M3) with its exhilarating bellow, and then the jazz funk number "Where Am I? (M5), a jazz funk number full of jet-black grooves, and a truly historical document that captures the transition from the 70s to the 80s to perfection!
